of the Alzheimer’s Association of Western North Carolina (</span><a

style='color:black'>), presented a program on her association at our Jan. 15,
2010 meeting. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

association covers 49 counties in Western North Carolina, and provides
services for patients and caregivers. It also supports research. She asked
for a show of hands of those present who had a personal connection to someone
with Alzheimer’s. Most of those present raised their hands.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:black'>Some of our members may not be
aware that the change put into the blue CART bucket at the check-in table
supports Alzheimer’s research. CART is Coins for Alzheimer’s

style='color:black'>) and it is project of the Rotary Clubs in the Carolinas
and Georgia. From donations of those coins, the fund already has distributed
$2.8 million through grants to 12 university research programs.</span><o:p></o:p></p>

grassroots Rotary club project which has rapidly grown to an international
level and responds to disasters such as the one in Haiti by providing
self-contained emergency shelter units. Shelter Box USA is a 501(c)3
organization – donations qualify as a charitable deduction for tax
purposes. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

sending shelter boxes to Haiti. The cost for each ShelterBox is $1,000. The
ShelterBox is a ten-person tent designed to withstand extreme temperatures,
high winds and heavy rainfall. The box includes a range of survival equipment
including insulated ground sheets, mosquito nets and life saving means of
water purification. Also included is a basic tool kit and a children’s
pack containing coloring books, crayons and pens.<br>

Checks in any amount can be made payable to “Rotary District
7690” and sent to District Secretary Margaret Padgett, 114 Willoughby
Park, High Point, NC 27265, though it is preferable for each club to collect
all the checks from its club members and mail them to Margaret. Please
