Col. Ware Tells Dilworthians about Iraq
Colonel Mark Ware is an officer who has "been there and done that.? He has
been stationed throughout the United States and from Germany and Italy to
Japan. For those of us who served in the past it is always welcome to hear
what is going on in our military. Colonel Ware recently returned from a
command in Iraq and gave us amazing insight into not only how things are
working over there, but the behind-the-scenes events making a long lasting
impact on local Iraqi citizens. It gave us a unique look into how well our
forces are doing.

Sixteen Members Achieve Perfect Attendance
Sixteen members were honored for .perfect attendance at the Nov. 6 meeting
and two were honored for decades of perfect attendance.
Harding Shinn completed his 45th year of perfect attendance and received a
pin. When Harding started his string of perfect attendance, achieving it
was more difficult. There were only four Rotary Clubs in Mecklenburg County
and a member had only one week on either side of a missed meeting to do a
make-up. There was no e-Club for make-ups and committee and service
projects did not count as make-ups. Congratulations Harding for an
impressive achievement.
David Hodgkins collected a 35-year pin. David is Mr. Attendance Make-Up and
has brought back banners from all over the world.

Restaurant Fund-Raising Project Succeeds
Dilworth South End Rotary?s first fund-raiser in cooperation with Dilworth
and South End Restaurants raised $1,429 and awareness of Rotary and our
community projects among the restaurant patrons.
Feedback on the project has been good and some restaurants already have
indicated a willingness to participate again. On November dozens of
Dilworthians and their friends went to lunch or dinner at one of the
participating restaurants ? 300 East, Brixx, Dilworth Bar and Grille, Greek
Isles, and La Paz. The restaurants shared a portion of their receipts for
that day.
Outback and Sullivan?s provided gift certificates that will be auctioned
off.
Kate Richards led the fund-raising committee. Members who worked on the
project include: Howard Castleman, Lamar Gunter, Rosemary Hill, David
Hodgkins, Ralph Lovejoy, Richard Pockat and Tony Thompson.
Our Club Bought $2,500 worth of Cards
Jim Hintz reported, ?Good News! Dilworth Rotary has done it again! We sold
$2,500 worth of our Creaciones Angel Handmade Cards from Peru at your
meeting on Friday, which is an outstanding result, given the state of the
economy and the size of the club.
?Of course 100% of the proceeds will go back to the girls who make the
cards, and that represents a whole month's payroll for them, so August will
again be Dilworth Rotary Month in the card shop in 2010, as it has been for
3 years running now. Please share this good news with all your members, and
once again, congratulations and thank you for your outstanding support.?
?We did very well at the Uptown Club yesterday, as of course we did at
Dilworth last Friday. And the winner is.......(drumroll) - Dilworth again!
(By about a 4-to-3 ratio). Dilworth has always been the No. 1 supporter of
Alto Cayma in everything we do, and it looks like it will be an uphill fight
for anyone to displace you from that position. Once again, thank you for a
great day in Dilworth Rotary, and we look forward to working with you far
into the future.?
Paul?s Team Starts Slowly in Guests Contest
Paul Whitfield launched the contest to bring in guests by issuing a
challenge from his team to teams led by Rosemary Hill and Ron Skufca. He
said he would spot Rosemary?s team 20 points (each guest is one point) and
Ron?s team 10 points.
Paul?s team leads with 3 guests in the first report, followed by two guests
for Ron?s and no guests for Rosemary?s.
The rules of engagement are:
? The team that brings the most guests is entitled to a prize
? Individual Club member who brings the most guests is entitled to a
prize
? Member must accompany guest
? Same guest will not be counted on third visit
? Guest may be a former member
? Team captain may appoint co-captains
? Each team must report number of guests
Past President Roddye Caudle Passes

member, died Monday, Nov. 9. A veteran of World War II, he spent part of
his time in the Army at Morris Field in Charlotte. He was an Elder in
Avondale Presbyterian Church where a memorial service was held Wednesday,
Nov. 11. He had a 35-year career in the hosiery industry and at one time

"Top Mustang Ace" - Presentation by Preddy biographer Joe Noah
Message-ID: <001f01ca64a0$dfab9770$9f02c650$@net>
Dilworthians,
The program next week, Nov. 20, will be a good one for invitations to
guests. We had originally tried to schedule author Joe Noah, who wrote "Top
Mustang Ace," for Nov. 13, the week of Veterans' Day. However, he had a
presentation in Virginia that day, but he told his friend Harding Shinn he
would be glad to present the program Nov. 20.
A native North Carolinian, George Preddy, was the top P-51 Mustang ace of
World War II. He shot down 27 enemy planes, five in one dogfight. The
Greensboro native's brother, Bill, also was a P-51 fighter pilot. Sadly,
George Preddy was shot down and killed by "friendly" ground fire on
Christmas Day 1944. His brother, Bill, also was shot down and killed on a
combat mission. It promises to be an interesting program. Please invite
family, friends and business acquaintances to attend.
I am sending this note well in advance of The Dilworthian because I
anticipate this will be a very interesting program and want you to have
ample time to line up guests.

Fellow Rotarians,
We are having another clean up of East Blvd on Dec. 12th at 8:30 am.
We will meet at the corner of Camden and West Blvd right in front of the
Law Offices of John Markey (right on the corner) at 8:30 am sharp.
Coffee, juice and biscuits will be provided.
Bring work gloves.
Rain or shine.
When we did this clean up in August the work took only 1 hour.
Please come out and support your Rotary and your Rotary projects.

Donation Kettle Bell Ringers Needed

the bells at Salvation Army donation kettles, you have missed an uplifting
experience. You will find a lot of the donors look as if they could use
help. Here are the times and Park Road Shopping Center locations where help
is needed:
Noon until 2 p.m. Harris Teeter one more volunteer needed
4-6 p.m. Harris Teeter, two volunteers needed
6-8 p.m. Harris Teeter, two volunteers needed
2-4 p.m. Blackhawk Hardware, one more volunteer needed
4-6 p.m. Blackhawk Hardware, two volunteers needed
If you can fill any of these slots, please contact Lee Wensil. This year
the Salvation Army needs our help more than ever.
