Probably every Rotarian knows that Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary, but many long-time Rotarians may not know what the Paul Harris Society is. The Paul Harris Society is a group of dedicated Rotarians who have agreed to contribute at least $1,000 a year (every year) to the Rotary Foundation. This group of Rotarians is committed to enhancing the wonderful work of the Rotary Foundation throughout the World. While we applaud each and every Rotarian who makes an annual contribution to the Rotary Foundation, Rotary International has created this special way of recognizing those Rotarians who commit to sending the Foundation at least $1,000 annually. Kelly Morris, Paul Harris Society Chair, said, "If you are a member of the Paul Harris Society, or, if you contribute at least $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation each year (and, if someone falls into this category, please let me know so that I can fill out the paperwork to get you recognized as a PHS member), I personally want to thank you for your commitment to RI. If you have thought about stepping up your contributions, there is no better time than right now to become a member of the Paul Harris Society. If you don't contribute to the Rotary Foundation, then you need to take some time and re-assess your priorities. In these troubled economic times, there is no better charity that any of us can support than the Rotary Foundation, where 100% of all of our contributions are spent to do the good works of Rotary International and to benefit the citizens of the World. Remember, the Rotary Foundation is OUR CHARITY!" DilWorth Noting Program Will Feature Work in Alto Cayma At our meeting this week, Jim and Gloria Hintz from the Charlotte University City Rotary Club will again be here with the beautiful hand-made greeting cards from their International Vocational Service project in Alto Cayma (Arequipa), Peru. The Hintzes spend seven to eight months a year in Alto Cayma, working with the people there. They recently returned from Peru with 6,000 cards to sell during the Christmas season, so they will have a wide variety to choose from without having to wait or pay a shipping charge. In addition to selling individual cards, this year they are featuring gift packs of 6 cards in an acryllic box for $25. These are a really different gift idea not only for family and friends, but also for business associates, staff members, and key customers or clients. One hundred percent of the proceeds from these sales go back to the people who do this beautiful work. So don't forget to bring your checkbooks Friday and help the people of Alto Cayma help themselves through their own honest efforts. STAR Rescheduled to Nov. 18 The meeting will be at Pike's on the 18th at 7:15 am. If you are planning to attend, please email Brad Goforth bgoforth at thesamaritanhouse.org so he can give them a count. Bring Coats for Crisis Assistance Ministry Some members brought coats for Crisis Assistance Ministry to the last meeting. More new and gently used coats are needed. Please bring them to the next meeting. Volunteers Needed To Ring Bells at Kettles Bell Ringing Chair Lee Wensil is looking for a few good men and women, not for the Marines, but the Salvation Army. Dilworth Rotary has pledged to staff the Salvation Army's donation kettles in the Park Road Shopping Center on Saturdays, Nov. 29, Dec. 6 and 13. We need to staff the kettles from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. in two-hour shifts in two locations. We like to have a minimum of two volunteers at each kettle, one at Harris Teeter and the other at Blackhawk Hardware. Sign-up sheets will be at each meeting. It is a good opportunity to serve our community and get to know our fellow Rotarians better. Social Set Nov. 18 at Greek Isles Restaurant The next social will be Nov. 18 at the Greek Isles Restaurant, 200 E. Bland St. Dinner reservations are set for 6:30 p.m., but host Corey Wilhelm says feel free to arrive at 6 p.m. for drinks. As usual drinks and dinner will be "dutch treat."
